From the center of Gerlos you hike along the romantic forest path along the Gerlosbach from Gerlos to Gmünd - in the direction of the Hotel Kröller.
Cross the street at the Hotel Kröller and turn right to the Hotel Almhof. Follow the single-lane road past Hotel Almhof to the "Seemeile" junction. A little caution is required when descending to the dam wall (good shoes). After the short tunnel, the way back leads directly along the shore of the Gmünd reservoir. When you get to the Hotel Kröller, you hike back along the Gerlosbach to Gerlos.
