Nature instead of medicine

Natural aerosol inhalation therapy at the Krimml Waterfalls is an effective and above all sustainable alternative to conventional therapies for allergy sufferers and asthmatics. But it is not only allergy and asthma sufferers who benefit from a trip to the Krimml Waterfalls.

The Krimml Waterfalls are a recognised natural remedy for allergies and asthma.

The spray in the vicinity of the waterfalls reduces allergic inflammation of the respiratory tract, causing allergy and asthma symptoms to disappear. And it is not only allergy and asthma sufferers who benefit from a visit to the foot of the waterfalls. Natural remedies are now an increasingly important aspect of all that the area has to offer.

Krimml-Hochkrimml has developed a wide range ofhealth options specifically for asthmatics. Everything from breaks in hotels certified for allergy sufferers to holiday camps for children help to counteract the symptoms of the condition.

Breathe healthily

A wonder of nature
The Krimml Waterfalls are the largest in Europe and have been awarded the Council of Europe’s European Diploma for Protected Areas. The special microclimate at the waterfall, which the doctor Wolfgang Oberlechner was already recommending to his patients back in 1808 in the fight against all kinds of diseases, is also rich in animal and plant life: hundreds of mosses, lichens and ferns grow in the spray, and the area is home to 62 different species of birds. The climate is also behind a unique health-giving effect: the tiny water droplets (measured on the nanoscale, 200 times smaller than in asthma inhalers!) are saturated with negatively charged ions and have a lasting positive effect on the entire immune system.

Studies confirm lasting health benefits
An internationally recognised and pioneering clinical study of 54 children has demonstrated that the exceptionally fine spray (aerosol spray on the nanoscale) at the Krimml Waterfalls leads to lasting improvements in allergies in general and allergic asthma in particular. Patients remained almost symptom-free for at least four months after their stay at the waterfall and their blood results improved. The findings of this study by the private Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg have now been published and recognised by the scientific community.

Demonstrable effect for allergy sufferers
Another clinical study conducted by Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg on behalf of the National Park administration has shown that people with allergic rhinitis (hay fever) also benefit from even a short stay at the Krimml Waterfalls. The upper respiratory tract clears much faster at the waterfall – in other words cilia function in this area improves, alleviating the disagreeable symptoms of hay fever. What is more, many places at the waterfalls induce a deep state of relaxation: your heartbeat slows, and better synchronisation of abdominal and thoracic breathing together with deeper breaths improves the circulation of blood through the lungs and increases oxygen levels in your blood.

The Krimml Waterfalls are located in the village of Krimml, in the heart of Hohe Tauern National Park. Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg has scientifically proven the health-giving effects of a stay at the Krimml Waterfalls for asthmatics and allergy sufferers. The exceptionally fine ion-saturated spray in the immediate vicinity of the waterfalls, together with a health programme and a stay in accommodation certified for allergy sufferers, can reduce symptoms for several months.

Hohe Tauern National Park also has low pollution, low levels of fungal spores and a short flowering season, making it the ideal place for bronchial asthma therapy.

  • Our accommodation for allergy sufferers has scientifically assessed rooms that are the only ones of their kind in the world (monitored for fine dust and indoor allergens such as animal hair, dust mites, etc.), so you can sleep in peace with no irritants to bother you.
  • Professional, personal support for Hohe Tauern Health guests from a member of staff at Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg

The Krimml effect: what our guests say

Natural aerosol inhalation therapy at the Krimml Waterfalls is an effective and above all sustainable alternative to conventional therapies for allergy sufferers and asthmatics.

“After about 3 weeks in Krimml and spending at least an hour every day at the waterfall, my two sons could breathe more easily. They could go uphill without taking Sultanol first. Over recent years, the boys have had no obstructive bronchitis for about 4 months after visiting Krimml and it has been possible to reduce their asthma medication.”
Mother of Bernd (9) and Magnus (11)

“At the beginning of my treatment, I could only go around 100 metres. After two weeks, I ran 5 km for the first time! I received excellent care. The overall package with talks and relaxation exercises will help me for a long time to come.”
Herbert

“I found the range of breathing and fitness exercises particularly useful. I feel a marked improvement in my general condition and my breathing and hope that, like last year, I will go a long time without needing my asthma inhaler. I am completely convinced of the benefits of the waterfalls.”
Renate

“Inhalation therapy at the waterfall has greatly improved my breathing and I need less medication.”
Karin
