The trail begins comfortably and shaded at the Gerlos Music Pavilion, heading east, and crosses the Gerlosbach stream at the first opportunity. From there, follow the wide path, but soon turn right into the forest to stay on trail No. 7. The path quickly gains elevation, crossing the forest road twice, before turning right again onto a narrow trail (still trail No. 7).
You now ascend alternately through increasingly sparse forest and alpine meadows, crossing a small stream until you can spot the Lackengrubenalm on your left. However, here you turn right uphill and follow the small stream for the final ascent to the Lackenscharte. The trail crosses the route from the Arbiskogel summit to the Kirchspitze and descends quickly toward the Wilder Bach, where the trail becomes a wide service road again.
Passing the Fürst- and Kothüttenalm and still following trail No. 7, you re-enter denser forest, take a turn in a switchback, and descend until you reach trail No. 6, which comes from the Wimmertal valley toward Gmünd. However, after just a few meters, you leave this trail again and turn right onto trail No. 7A (Waterfall Trail). Follow this trail until you cross the Entergraben, then turn left and shortly reach the wide path that leads back to the bridge over the Gerlosbach. Turn left one last time, and you'll return to the starting point of this circular trail.
