Directions to Gerlos

Gerlos is located at a height of 1,300 metres in the Gerlos Valley, a side valley to the Zillertal. The airport cities of Munich and Salzburg are around 2.5 hours away by car, while Innsbruck is roughly 1.5 hours away.
It is possible to reach the Zillertal by car via the B165 main road (subject to tolls from the state of Salzburg) or using public transportation. The closest station for national and international rail connections is at Jenbach. From here, the Postbus and Zillertalbahn train run regularly to Zell am Ziller, where you can take a 'Christophorus' bus to the Upper Gerlos Valley.

You select the starting and destination station yourself and travel inexpensively by train.

Convenient and speedy travel - while you sleep!

ÖBB Nightjet trains whisk you comfortably through the night to your desired destination. ÖBB offers this service on many routes from 11th December 2016.

We recommend that our guests choose the environmentally friendly option of travelling by rail. The Ziller Valley railway is located beside the ÖBB train station in Jenbach. You can conveniently reach Zell am Ziller from there.

Money-saving tip

Try searching for the same journey on the Deutsche Bahn, on the Austrian national rail service or the Swiss Schweizer Bahn websites, and there may be a difference in the prices, so you could get yourself a bargain.

It is even possible to bag a so-called 'Sparpreis' reduced ticket online up to three days before your journey. The earlier you book the better! There are also many more offers to be found if you travel during the week in comparison to weekend travel.

Tips for families:

Young children ride for FREE up to one day before their sixth birthday with the Austrian Rail ÖBB standard ticket, children from six to fifteen years of age travel half price. Young children do not have to be listed on the ticket.

The closest airports are Innsbruck (60 km), Munich (189 km) and Salzburg (163 km). On this page, you can search for a suitable flight for your holiday in the Zillertal.
