The hike starts at the Alpengasthof Filzstein on the Gerlosplatte. From there you follow the hiking trail which leads over mountain meadows towards Plattenkogel. Here you have a magnificent view over the entire Salzach valley, as well as down to the Durlassboden reservoir on the other side. Now begins the actual Leitenkammersteig, which leads through beautiful stone pine forests to the Wildkar high alpine pasture. From here it goes downhill through the forest to the Trissl Alm, which offers a good place for a break. Now you come to the highlight of this route - the natural monument Leitenkammerklamm. Extremely interesting erosion features with several potholes and washouts characterize this impressive gorge. The destination of the route is the Familienhotel Finkau.
