Gerlos-Schönachtal-Keeskarscharte-Zittauer Hütte-Finkau This is a superb mountain tour starting from Gerlos, but it requires a lot of stamina, good hiking gear and a level head for heights – good Alpine Club route.

If you wish, you can do this tour in stages with an overnight stop at the Zittauer Hütte. Gerlos to the Schönach glacier approx. 3 hrs., from there on to the Keeskarscharte 4 ½ hrs. The refuge warden (a mountain guide) at the Zittauer Hütte will inform you about rock climbs and glacier tours in the region. Make your way to the right from the Oberwirt, across the Gerlosbach bridge  past the Jörgleralm (1.300 m) to the Stinkmoosalm. Now continue slightly upwards via the Lackenalm (open, 1.405m) and the Pasteinalm (1.692m) following the good path to the Keeskar, zigzagging up the east side of the valley to the Keeskarscharte (col at 2.778 m). Extremely impressive close-up view of the glacier with the rock and ice- capped mountains in the Schönachtal and Wildgerlostal. Wind your way down eastwards into the Wildgerlostal on a well-marked path until your reach the tongue of the Wildgerloskees glacier.
From here you can either...

a)...cross eastwards below the glacier tongue (3/4 hr.) and then walk up gently to the Zittauer Hütte at the Wildgerlossee (lake) and stop for a rest here while admiring  the view onto the glacier. The refuge lies at a height of 2.329 m and enjoys one of the most beautiful setting in the Tyrol; or
b)... take the direct route down in zigzags along the left edge of the glacier moraine
until you reach the valley floor. This so-called <<Grund<< is shaped like a horseshoe and flanked in on all sides by rock walls. Here the route joins up with the path leading down from the Zittauer Hütte on the other side of the valley. Now  make your way to the right of the stream along the fairly level valley floor and out through the Wildgerlostal to the Durlassboden reservoir, then past the Drissalm  (1.583 m) to the Finkaualm mountain in. From here you can continue on the road  to the Gerlos Pass and take the mail bus back to Gerlos or, from Finkau, carry on  along the west edge of the reservoir to the Bärschlagalm, then follow the new path  to the dam and back to the Gerlos road  From the Zittauer Hütte to here it take approx. 3 hrs. From the dam it is an hour walk to Gerlos or return by mail bus (bus stop).

Schönbichl circular walk Beautiful hikingtour to the Schönbichl – Tyrol mountain paths seal of approval!
From Gerlos at the „Gasthof Oberwirt“ – cross the street an follow the path on the right side to the Schönachtal ( hiking trail no. 5.) At the exit of the Schönachtal turn slightly right and cross the Schönach a bit later. At this point begins the climb to the Schönbichl. Past the „Kreidlschlagalm“  you reach the broad ridge on which the „Schönachkamm“  flows to the north site. Moderately up it goes to the summit of Schönbichl (2,049 m). From there you walk for some time on a „ridge“ (trail no. 5) along the "ridge" until you can turn right into the Lahnerhöhe and go back on the Hochlahneralm and later on the Lahneralm. Back in the Schönachtal you hike on the north over the Stinkmoosalm (1,350 m) further to the Jörgleralm (1, 300 m) back to the starting point of the crossing of the Schönach. From here follow the already known way back to Gerlos.

Gerlossteinwand/Torhelm (2.452 m) - Weißbachalm (1.543 m) - Kühle Rast (1.191 m) Hike on the wonderful Gerloser Höhenweg - award-winning hiking trail of the Land Tyrol
After the ascent with the Gerlossteinbahn turn left onto hiking trail no. 8 over a gently rising road. After crossing a small, romantic ravine the climb branches off to the right just before a T-bar lift. By heading over lush green Alpine meadows and steep terrain in multiple steep steps, you will reach Heimjöchl. Continue a little bit further downwards till a slowly to moderately ascending path leads along the slope to Lixlkarscharte. From there you will be able to catch a glimpse of the wonderful view of the Brandberger Kolm in the east and Geiskopf in the west. Hiking trail no. 8 leads left at first along a small bay and then continues off to the right over a green Alpine meadow underneath the Brandberger Kolm. A path branches off to the left here to Torhelm. On a broad, green ridge you will finally reach the peak of the mountain after heading in a south-westerly direction. Enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding mountain scenery from up here! The descent first leads back over the same path and then follows – a trackless path in part – the markings in no. 8 downwards into a high valley. After approx. 20 minutes you will cross a babbling brook in the direction of Weißbachalm. Follow this hiking trail downwards to the valley over other lush Alpine meadows, until you reach a road. Then continue on this path to Schwarzbichlalm, and then, after a few kilometres, you will finally reach “Kühle Rast”. From “Kühle Rast“, you can then travel back to Hainzenberg to the starting point by bus.
