Weibsbildertour
The true girls’ mountain adventure for best friends!

Would you like to spend a few carefree days all about friendship? Then quickly pack up your best friends and head for the Zillertal Arena. The Weibsbildertour is a complete package for a trip with your best friend, sister or mum. After all, what better way to escape the daily grind than to share unforgettable moments in a majestic mountain setting? You should be athletically fit, sure-footed and not have a fear of heights.

The objective of the tour is quite similar to its male counterpart: fun and fantastic mountain adventures. Oh, yeah: we have of course also planned a bit of relaxation at a wellness hotel. The tour leads to one of the most impressive and beautiful areas of the Zillertal Alps and the Hohe Tauern National Park in four days. The tours are not accompanied by guides!

Pure mountain bliss

The Weibsbildertour leads through one of the most impressive and beautiful areas of the Zillertal Alps and the Hohe Tauern National Park. We start at a hotel in the picturesque village of Gerlos, from where the first part of the hike leads through the Wildgerlostal valley up to the Zittauer Hütte.

After spending the night in the mountains, we continue to the impressive Rosskarscharte, where the effort is rewarded with a unique view of the surrounding landscape.

The day ends at the Krimmler Tauernhaus, from where the last day takes you through the beautiful natural gem Krimmler Achental – past the famous Krimml Waterfalls – to the Weibsbildertour’s destination: the town of Krimml.

Day 1: Warming up & relaxing

Before the sporty part of this tour starts in the wonderful Zillertal mountains, you can recharge your batteries for the next few exciting days in the Zillertal Arena. We can relax and unwind in the SPA area at the wellness hotel in Gerlos. Clearing our minds and the anticipation of the exciting tour puts a smile on our faces. The perfect end to the day is the delicious dinner in the evening. Let’s try to get enough sleep, because the second day of the Weibsbildertour is going to be sporty and high alpine.

Well fortified with a Zillertal breakfast we start our tour in Gerlos. We head east along the beautiful stream from the Isskogelbahn car park. First we hike through the wonderfully cool forest and reach the Durlaßboden reservoir’s dam wall. After crossing the top of the dam, a beautiful forest path follows along the lake. This hiking trail offers nature at its very finest and leads us past the rustic Bärschlagalm. Over a short stretch of asphalt with a view of lush green meadows with cows grazing, we reach the Alpengasthof Finkau.

Once we’re at the Trisslalm, we have definitely earned a good snack and take in the impressive mountain scenery. With our energy levels topped up with products from the mountain farm, things get tough again in the last two and a half hours. It is a wonderful climb, along a wide path to the Zittauer Hütte goods cable car station first. Then the path climbs and gets a little rockier, our pulse really shoots up again, before we reach the final destination for today, the Zittauer Hütte. The path over stone slabs leads past a waterfall, followed by a spectacular view of the Reichenspitzgruppe with their glaciers. The idyllic location of the hut at the lower Wildgerlossee at the foot of the Reichenspitzgruppe is unique. As is the unforgettable view from the cosy sun terrace over the rugged glaciers of the Gerloskees. We have really earned a break and refreshment at the Zittauer Hütte!

Well rested after a good sleep, we start out from the Zittauer Hütte (2,328 m). A path leads here up to the upper Gerlossee, which we leave on the left and follow the path at the crossroads towards the Rosskarscharte. At first the trail leads along a beautiful path, where you should be sure-footed and not afraid of heights, then the climb to the Rosskarscharte follows relatively quickly. A kind of stone staircase leads up to the crossing. As soon as you have crossed it, you have a wonderful view of the Reichenspitze with its glacier fields as well as the Gerlossee. Just before the col, a detour to the Rosskopf (2,845 m) is also possible.

NOTE: There may be snowfields in this area that have to be crossed. Now we have conquered the steep climb and we head downhill through the Rosskar to the Rosskarlacke and to the Keesböden at the end of the Rainbachtal, where we meet the Richterhütte hiking trail at a crossroads. The last climb up to the Richterhütte (2,367 m) starts below the goods cable car bottom station. Now we have earned a rest and top up our energy levels with a hearty snack.

The way back from the hut leads along the same path to the goods cable car bottom station and further downhill past the rustic Rainbachalm and through the wonderfully fragrant pine forest to the Krimmler Tauernhaus (1,631 m), our destination for today. There you can choose between different types of accommodation, from a simple dormitory to a comfortable twin bed room. The Krimmler Tauernhaus has a long tradition as a north-south connection across the Alps, and was already mentioned in documents in 1389.

Well fortified from the hearty breakfast, we continue towards the Krimml Waterfalls, one of the most popular destinations in Europe. The Krimmler Achental is a natural gem and belongs to the Hohe Tauern National Park. KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN: we might encounter some marmots or eagles on the hike. After two hours of hiking along the gentle alpine pastures and the Krimmler Ache we reach the impressive Krimml Waterfalls and after another hour the destination for the last stage of the Weibsbildertour, the village of Krimml. With a drop of 380 metres over three levels, the Krimml Waterfalls are the highest in Europe and a first-rate natural wonder. This highlight and natural remedy is the perfect conclusion to the demanding Weibsbildertour, which is guaranteed to leave us with unforgettable impressions.
