Schwarzachtal 1-hour walk along the Schwarzach creek. Ideal for families with baby carriages up to the Schwarzachalm. For experienced hikers: ascent to Schwarzachscharte (2,475 m) possible.
Just to get the feel of things, you should try the Schwarzach Valley. From your lodgings you can stroll along the practically level trail to Gerlos-Gmünd, past the reservoir and on to the Gasthof Kühle Rast. Here you cross a brief stretch of forest and then finally - but slowly - climb uphill. For about an hour you'll hike through the narrow, romantic Schwarzach Valley, until at almost 1,400 m you've earned your apple strudel at the Jausenstation Schwarzachalm (snacks). Less experienced walkers can take Hiking Trail No. 8 from here to the Obere Schwarzachalm, while more enterprising souls can continue further into the valley. Really experienced hikers can even hike the mountain trail to 2,475-m-high Schwarzachscharte.

The Wimmer Valley is also more or less easy-going. Here too, you take the forest trail along the Gerlos creek to Gerlos Gmünd. At the Hotel Kröller the trail climbs briefly. An easy walk along the hiking trail No. 6 takes you to the hut Wimmertalalm in about 1 hour. Less experienced hikers can even take the trail over the Gründlbachalm and Grundhütte to reach an elevation of approx. 1,760 m. From there trail 6 takes more experienced hikers to the
Wimmerscharte at more than 2,500 m elevation.

And even if you're not a mountaineer but are still surefooted and have good boots you can pick up the hiking trail here that climbs via the Issalm and the Pasteinalm to a good 2,000 m. For your reward you'll have a breath-taking view of the mighty Schönachkees (glacier). From the Issalm you can also reach the romantic Stackerlalm at 1.800 m.

Zittauer Hütte (2.329 m) 5 - 6 hours nice walk to Zittauer Hütte. The Zittauer Hütte is located directly on the lake "Wildgerlos" and is for fit hikers an ideal starting point for various hut tours (Richter Hütte, Krimmler Tauernhaus, etc.)
From the "Alpengasthof Finkau" you go along a broad road through the still wooded valley to the "Trisslalm". Soon the forest thins and the hiking trail along the raging creek reaches a small plain at the rear bottom of the valley. The wide footbath ends at the station of the cableway to the "Zittauer Hütte". We continue along a narrow footpath on the moraine by a defused with safety ropes, rocky steep flank. Soon you reach the flat ridge by ground smooth of glacial ice, on which the Zittauer Hütte stands. The way back to the Alpengasthof Finkau is the same.
