Winter Hiking Trails in the Zillertal Arena

ZILLERPROMENADE

From the bridge in Zell am Ziller on both sides along the river towards Hippach (4 km) and continue to Mayrhofen (8 km). River crossing on one of the bridges along the route (each about 1.5 km distance) possible. Returning also possible by train, steam train or bus. You can enjoy a cup of coffee and a piece of cake in the excellent cake shops of Zell. The Zillerpromenade continues also in the opposite direction to Aschau (4 km), to Kaltenbach (8 km) and to Strass (23 km).

Time: 40 min to Hippach or Aschau, 1 h 45 min to Mayrhofen or Kaltenbach

AROUND ZELL

Starting from the town square, walk up to just before the bridge, then to the right along the Zillerpromenade. Walk along the Ziller river until you reach the Gerlosbach river. After a few minutes, you cross the bridge and follow the riverside path to the Gasthof Waldrast. Then through the underpass of the Zillertal road through the fields to the Gauder chapel. From there through the Gaudegasse/Gerlosstraße back to the starting point.

MARIA RAST (HAINZENBERG)

From the Gasthof Waldheim (Gerlosstraße - Hainzenberg) walk on the right via the stations of the cross (way no. 8, past the 'Lourdes Grotto' to the pilgrimage church of Maria Rast (built 1738) with a beautiful view of Zell am Ziller. On the same path to the starting point.

Time: 1 h 30 min (round trip)

Other possibilities:

Cheese-making exhibition and animal park (from the chapel, follow trail No. 8, walking time
15 min).
Descent via Ramsau (path branches shortly before the church). Along a meadow path to the Wischberg Farm. Follow Trail No. 7 to Ramsau (church worth visiting). Back to Zell along the Zillerpromenade, by train or bus (walking time from Maria Rast to Ramsau, approx. 1 hour).

KRAUSPROMENADE (ROHRBERG)

At the base station of Rosenalmbahn cable car - Zillertal Arena on the right hand side the Krauspromenade (way no. 2) starts rising slightly. The promenade is named after the famous singer Dr. Kraus. After about 30 minutes on the shady forest path you reach the Gerlosbergstraße, there you turn right (down the valley) until you reach the Gerlosberg bridge. After the bridge turn right through the Kaiserstadt and walk along the right side of the Gerlosbach river back to the starting point.

ASTACHHOF (GERLOSBERG)

By car or bus (Regiotaxi from the train station Zell am Ziller) to the bus station Gerlosberg - stop Erlach/Almhof. Along the asphalted road which is hardly used and mostly flat, then switchbacks to Astachhof. The sunny terrace and a cozy lounge invite you to stop. Some mountain farms with extremely steep meadows, some without road connections line the walking route. Return via the same path to the starting point.
