KRIMML ACHENTAL VALLEY

  • Krimml (1,076 m)
  • Krimml Waterfalls
  • Schönangerl Guesthouse (1,300 m)
  • Krimml Tauernhaus (1,622 m)

Walking time:
Schönangerl Guesthouse 1 hour
Krimml Tauernhaus 3 hours (one way) easy family hike

You will walk along the right hand side of the Krimml Waterfalls – the highest waterfalls in Europe – following the winding sightseeing path, up to the Schönangerl Guesthouse. From here you will have a wonderful view of the 380m waterfalls. After Schönangerl Guesthouse the path gets steeper until you reach the upper edge of the steep step. Further up path number 11 a fabulous high valley opens up. You will hike on a gentle climb past Alpine pastures into the valley and will reach Krimml Tauernhaus after walking for approximately 1½ hours. This house is over 600 years old and used to be an important support point for the many traders and hikers who have been using this crossing since the Middle Ages. The old guesthouse is a protected monument. The return hike takes the same path in reverse.

Tip: you can reach many mountain huts, crossings and mountain peaks from Krimml Tauernhaus.

KRIMML - HOCHKRIMML
  • Krimml (1,076 m)
  • Hochkrimml (1,641 m)
  • Gletscherblickalm (1,850 m )
  • Plattenkogel (2,040 m )

Walking time:
3 hours from Krimml, 1 1/2 hours from Filzstein Guesthouse (one way) easy family hike

From the centre of Krimml (1,076 m) walk towards Burgeck Guesthouse (path no. 49) and follow the path towards the mountain until Loitbachbrücke bridge.
Then continue on Binderweg into Brunnsteinwald Forest (still path no. 49) and through this to Alpengasthof Filzstein (1,641 m). From here you walk along the right to Plattenkogel (path no. 49). Walking time approx. 2-3 hours
(Krimml-Plattenkogel).

Tip: a great family hike that you can also start from Filzstein Guesthouse (take the car there). From the Plattenkogel go further west across the base of the Alpine pastures to Gletscherblickalm. This farm is open to the public and the farmer’s wife is happy to explain the ‘art of cheese making’. From Gletscherblickalm you walk across Plattenalm pasture, following path no. 49, back to Filzstein Guesthouse. Drivers are finished here and walkers return to Krimml Valley by the same path.

WILDGERLOSTAL
  • Krimml (1,076 m)
  • Wildgerlostal Valley
  • Finkau Guesthouse (1,420 m)
  • Zittauer Hut (2,328 m)

Walking time:
3 hours (one way) of mountain walking, average difficulty. Drive your car to Gerlospass and along the Durlassboden Reservoir to Finkau Guesthouse. This is where you will begin your hike.
Alternative: On foot from Gerlosplatte via the beautiful Leitenkammersteig (path no. 49/50) to Trisslalm. You follow a broad path, climbing gently over Leitenkammerklamm (natural monument) and Trisslalm (path no. 49/50) to the valley station of the goods cable car. Now the path gets steeper and leads you over the so-called Klamml, a secured path built into the rock, to Zittauer Hütte, located in a picturesque spot on the lower Gerlossee Lake.
Tip: Zittauer Hütte is the ideal starting point for many high tours in the Reichenspitzgruppe Mountains. The descent takes the same path back. Experienced hikers with good equipment can also cross the valley, e.g. into Krimml Achental or towards Windbachtal.
